The International Japan Karate Association (IJKA) is a globally respected karate organization founded by the late Sadashige Kato Shihan (10th Dan), a legendary master who played a vital role in the international development of Shotokan Karate.
IJKA was established to preserve, develop, and transmit traditional Shotokan Karate, while embracing technical evolution grounded in scientific body mechanics, fluid movement, precise timing, and powerful execution. The organization upholds karate not only as a martial art, but as a lifelong discipline that promotes respect, equality, and peace.
IJKA operates under a centralized international structure headquartered in Japan, ensuring uniform technical, ethical, and organizational standards worldwide. All technical syllabi, Dan examinations, instructor certifications, and international appointments are conducted under the direct authority of the IJKA Headquarters in Japan, guaranteeing authentic lineage and global recognition.
Under the leadership of Chief Instructor Takato Utsumi, IJKA continues to uphold the legacy of Kato Shihan. As successors of his teachings, we have a responsibility to develop and preserve this legacy, ensuring it is passed on to the next generation with integrity and honor.
IJKA Sri Lanka is the officially recognized national body representing the International Japan Karate Association (IJKA) in Sri Lanka. It serves as the direct link between Sri Lankan practitioners and the IJKA Headquarters in Japan, ensuring that all training programs, examinations, and certifications strictly comply with international IJKA standards.

Through structured training, certified instruction, and international recognition, IJKA Sri Lanka aims to contribute positively to both the national and global karate community.
